fire

/ˈfī(ə)r/ noun

  1. the natural element that has shaped my life more than any other.

I picked up a Pulaski (wildland firefighting tool) for the first time in 1995. Since then I’ve fought fire all over the Western United States, written about firefighting and Smokey Bear, been interviewed about fire & birth as well as fire & film.

This summer, I was thrilled to be interviewed by CBS Correspondent Enrique Acevedo for a 60 Minutes+ episode on smokejumping, produced by Sarah Kuzmarov.

Family folklore:

I met my husband on a wildfire in the Pasayten Wilderness, near the US-Canada border.
